More than a decade: a short re-cap of the slow journey (since 2012)

Wednesday, July 5th, 2023

Everything began in November 2012 when we officially launched slow-watches.com. And yes, that is more than a DECADE ago now…

slow JO

For the start of your journey we introduced our slow JO, a timepiece crafted by hand in Switzerland, much like all our watches. Initially we offered 15 different variations. Since then, a significant amount of time has elapsed, spanning over a decade…

The JO model showcases an octagonal shape and has a comfortable width of 38 mm. When selecting this watch, you have the option to choose from various colors and bracelet types, ensuring a distinctive appearance tailored to your preferences.

slow MO

Following the JO, we introduced the slow MO model. While this timepiece maintains a unisex appeal, we intentionally opted for a slightly more delicate design with a width of 34 mm, accommodating individuals with slender wrists, including both men and women. Although the slow MO retains the octagonal shape, it incorporates rounded edges, exuding a gentler aesthetic. Similarly, you can choose from different styles that distinctly cater to either a masculine or feminine taste.

slow O

Subsequently, we ventured into the realm of rounded watches with the introduction of the slow O model, our first oval variation of Swiss wristwatches. With a diameter of 42.5 mm, it surpasses the dimensions of its predecessors. This is partly due to the fact that round watches generally appear smaller compared to angular ones. The O model possesses a truly unique and appealing quality, as it is rounded on all sides, creating an exceptionally elegant timepiece.

slow ROUND

In 2017, we further developed our affinity for round designs, leading to the birth of the slow Round model. Embracing a truly circular shape, it seamlessly combines elements from its precursor designs, proving to be a resounding success. This new addition to our family of watches gradually overshadowed the previously popular slow Jo models. With a width of 40 mm and a captivating range of colors, the slow Round struck a chord with watch enthusiasts, ultimately leading us to discontinue the O models.

slow ROUND-S

Introducing a smaller sister to the slow Round, we created the slow Round-S, featuring a width of 34 mm and a clear emphasis on women’s fashion. This intention is immediately evident when exploring the array of color variations available, showcasing fresh and feminine combinations that are sure to excite.

slow TWELVE

Our latest addition, unveiled in 2022, is the slow Twelve, expanding our diverse collection. The Twelve represents a further evolution of a special edition that was not previously featured in our lineup: the slow AM/PM. Designed primarily for the US/UK market, this timepiece features a dial displaying only 12 hours.

Additionally, we offer battery-powered watches (all mentioned models are quartz watches) as well as an automatic version called the Automatically slow. If you are interested in the latter, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at jo@slow-watches.com.

By the way, here’s a sneak peek… We hope to introduce a Solar slow this year, or at the very latest, the following year. Simultaneously, we are diligently working on another automatic version.

The journey continues to be captivating and full of surprises!

vivre slow (live slow)!

Sunday, March 19th, 2023

Hello everyone!

We are thrilled to see the global movement towards a slower, more intentional way of living. Our vision of timekeeping is not just about telling the time, but about using time wisely and intentionally, to appreciate the present moment and to focus on what truly matters.

Recently, our watches were featured in an article on conso-mag, a French lifestyle website, and in the January 2023 issue of A.EN magazine from Switzerland. These features have been a great opportunity for us to share our mission and vision with a wider audience, and to inspire more people to slow down and live in the moment.

The Conso-Mag article highlights the unique design of our watches, which feature only one hand and a 24-hour dial divided into 15-minute increments. This design encourages wearers to focus on the present moment, rather than constantly checking the time. The article also touches on the value of mindfulness in daily life, and how our watches can serve as a reminder to be present and intentional.

Similarly, the article in A.EN magazine celebrates our watches as timepieces that challenge the traditional concept of timekeeping. Instead of focusing on precise time measurement, Slow Watches encourages wearers to value the passage of time and to appreciate the present moment. This is especially important in today’s fast-paced world, where it is all too easy to get caught up in the demands of work and other responsibilities.

Overall, we are excited to see the message of slow spreading beyond borders and inspiring people in diverse countries like France and Switzerland. Our watches are more than just timepieces; they are tools for intentional living and reminders to slow down and savor the moment. We are proud to be at the forefront of this movement towards mindfulness and presence.

Thank you for your continued support, and let’s keep spreading the slow message one tick at a time!

WHAT AN ADDITION TO THE SLOW FAMILY: WE ARE LAUNCHING AUTOMATICALLY SLOW.

Tuesday, June 28th, 2016

IT’S THE MOST EXCITING DAY FOR US EVER! TODAY WE ARE MAKING SLOW EVEN MORE SLOW: WE ARE INTRODUCING THE FIRST SLOW WATCH WITH AN AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT.

We always loved the idea of a 24 hour one-hand watch that runs forever without ever needing to exchange the battery. So the entire team has been working on the perfect mechanical slow for a long time and it just turn out beautiful.

Of course the amazing glass case back that gives you a direct view on the refined craftsmanship of the clockwork is a true highlight.

You can directly witness how the mechanical parts turn and power the watch just be the movement of your arm. To ensure the highest possible reliability we use a movement made by the most trusted specialist in the industry: The ETA 2893 AIG4.  It has a long term proven record and is easy to service for every watch shop.

The front is certainly stunning as well. We used the iconic slow octagon case shape and took it to a whole new level by adding an outstanding bezel and lugs as well as enlarging it to 41mm width. The rose gold adds a great bi-color twist to the stainless steel.

As all slow watches the case is perfectly symmetric and the engineers managed to create the case back on the same shape as the bezel, so the side view is incredible.

To complete the impressive look we added a structured dial with detailed hour index applications as well as a date window. Of course all is protected by scratchproof sapphire crystal. We picked a fine Italian calf leather strap with croco pattern to make the entire thing look even more precious.

Check out the automatically slow if you want to get more information.

If you’re already slow we have a great side note for you: every band from your slow Jo fits to the case of the automatically slow.

WE GAVE A KEYNOTE ABOUT THE VALUE OF TIME AT THE “SYMPOSIUM OECONOICUM”

Monday, June 6th, 2016

YEAH! WE JUST GAVE A KEYNOTE ABOUT OUR SLOW COMPANY THAT MAXIMISES THE VALUE OF TIME AND NOT THE PROFIT AT THE “SYMPOSIUM OECONOICUM” IN MÜNSTER.

slow is about an idea of living for the moment and cherish time again. But we are taking this further and actually our entire company is based on that vision:

How can we use all this nice modern technology, open minded consumers, globalisation, and great outsourcing partners to build a firm that is not maximising profit or market capitalisation but the value of time. The time of everybody who is involved – employees, partners, founder’s, and of course customers.

That was exactly the topic of the founder’s keynote at the famous “Symposium Oeconoicum” at Germany’s largest business university in Münster. We were grateful and proud to speak to over 600 Student along side with great personalities as the German Minister of Defense – Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, Christian Lindner as well as CEOs of leading Companies.

slow supports SOS Children’s village

Friday, June 3rd, 2016

slow watches is proud to support people to do good and raise money for Children in need.

Last week we supported our friends from Anglia Ruskin University to raise GBP 6,300 for Cambridge-based charity SOS Children’s Villages that has been supporting children around 125 countries since 1949.

Our slow watches were part of an auction to raise a good amount of funds during the Cambridge Black Tie Charity Dinner.

As a company we always try to give something back and help people in need. For example we raised over 10.000€ for Kids in Brazil before and are proud to be part of this great charity again. We would like to send a big thank you to the Anglia Ruskin University-team for the amazing job they did and hope to inspire more people to do good! And of course it also feels fantastic that our support is appreciated – especially when it comes as such a nice certificate.

Certificate of Appreciation
